Specialist in Oriental languages and civilizations (Armenian, Syriac, Hebrew). Following Meillet, he occupied the Armenian chair of the Paris Langues et Civilisations Orientales (Oriental Languages and Civilizations) academy. Together with other Armenologists (V. Bérard, Ch. Diehl, A.-F. Hérold, H. Lacroix, A. Meillet, G. Millet, G. Schlumberger), he was one of the founders of La Revue des Études Arméniennes.
